The hottest designer handbags for autumn 2021 from Jennifer Lopezs Fendi Touch bag, to Maison

May 2024 · 2 minute read

High style and ease of use have not always been happy bedfellows – a lot of couture can be uncomfortable and many luxury accessories are deeply impractical. Fendi is addressing that with the new Touch, the latest of the Italian luxury label’s much-loved leather bags, released as part of its autumn/winter 2021 collection.

The deal here is that the classic FF buckle, which has offered a wide variety of renderings of the brand’s logo over the years, is transformed into the centrepiece of the design, thanks to a clever new mechanism that allows the bag to be opened with a single touch. A practical shoulder bag with a clean, unfussy silhouette, it comes in a range of five colours: black, camel, brown, grey and white. The collection is the work of accessories creative director Silvia Venturini Fendi, and Kim Jones, who took over as women’s artistic director last year.

The Swalk II, the new bag from Maison Margiela’s autumn/winter 2021 collection, takes its name from a film of the same name shot by fashion photographer Nick Knight to accompany the brand’s spring/summer 2021 collection, in which the bag was introduced. A charming retro frame clutch bag, it features a curved brass handle inlaid with calf leather, a silk-lined crochet raffia clasp and a separate chain strap. It comes in two sizes and two colours – red and black – in reference to the colours in the tango scenes that feature in the film.

Maison Margiela was founded by the highly deconstructive, famously anonymous, cult Belgian designer Martin Margiela. He left in 2009, but the current creative director is an equally legendary fashion figure: John Galliano. Among the changes he has brought: the brand used to eschew labels bearing its name, but the Swalk II comes adorned with a leather Maison Margiela tag, so your bragging rights are secure.
